Visit to the Turnario Dairy in Peio

It's the last functioning turnario dairy in the entire Trentino region. Why "turnario"? Because the "caserada," meaning the cheese production for one day, is owned, in turn, by one of the 5 members, and the number of caseradas each member gets is proportional to the amount of milk brought to the dairy. All the cheese is made with raw milk and according to traditional methods: with copper cauldrons, with water tanks for skimming the cream, and with brining environments. In 2019, it won the "Resistenza Casearia" (Dairy Resistance) award, an acknowledgment that Slow Food has been giving out at each edition of Cheese since 2009 to those shepherds, cheesemakers, scholars, and enthusiasts who refuse shortcuts and who, with tenacity (and a pinch of stubbornness), continue to produce cheeses and foods while respecting naturalness, tradition, and taste.

Visit to the Molin dei Turri in Peio Paese

In the past, four water mills were operational in Peio. Today, only the Molìn dei Turi, located in the center of the village, has been recently restored and is opened to the public only on special occasions. Belonging to the Turri family for generations, the mill survived the avalanche of December 13, 1916, partially damaged, and later restored by Paolo Turri, assisted by his brother Don Antonio Turri. Together with twelve other buildings, it escaped the fire of February 2, 1943, which destroyed 97 houses. The advent of electricity in Peio changed the way the mill obtained energy, transforming it permanently. It operated with electric power until the 1970s, with Paolo Turri as the last miller. In 2018, the municipal administration purchased the mill to allocate it for ecomuseum purposes.

Visit to the Ethnographic Museum of Wood in Celledizzo

The building is a testament to the gradual evolution brought about by electricity in Val di Pejo. The sawmill, despite being powered by electricity, preserves the layout and historic mechanisms of the Venetian sawmill, starting from the typical carriage. Completing the exhibition are the simple room of the sawmill worker ("segòt") and the display of traditional tools used for wood processing, from tree felling to artistic creations. Some panels illustrate the methods of timber processing and narrate how strenuous and sometimes dangerous the work of loggers (borari) and sawyers (segòti) was.
